South Carolina and North Carolina and St. John’s in the Wilderness and Inman, SC

I left Bluffton, South Carolina, on Monday morning and headed north.  My check engine light came on about 2 hours after I left and it stayed on for about 2 hours, then went off for a couple of hours and came on again.  I found a mechanic, named David, in Inman, SC just as he was closing and he said he would look at it in the morning so I parked in his lot overnight.  In the morning, David and one of his mechanics checked my van and said the code showed a cylinder misfired, but he could not find anything wrong. He said not to worry about it, that it’s an intermittent code reading unless it starts running rough. This is also where I got to meet Fire Chief Phil Caruso who became a friend of mine along with his wife Pam.

Relieved to know it’s safe to drive, I headed out towards Asheville, and then to Knoxville.  I had to drive up some steep mountains and I know it was tough on my engine and transmission so I went slowly.

I stopped at the visitor center and got a map and found out about an old church named St. Johns in the Wilderness, so I detoured to it and took photos. The church was locked so I could not go in, but I was able to take photos of some old gravestones.  The church is nestled in the trees up on a hill so the only picture I could get was showing the trees surrounding the church.  Photo Album of pictures taken there.IMG_8907IMG_8922

After I left there I was going to stop at the National Park historic site of Carl Sandburg, but when I got there the small parking lot was full and I couldn’t park so I continued on my journey and found a nice campground called Bear Creek in Asheville so I stopped in the early afternoon and just relaxed. Since they have wifi, I’m able to update my website and photo albums.  Tomorrow I head towards Knoxville.
