JB’s on the Beach, Deerfield Beach, Florida

IMG_2352A few days after I was home from this recent trip, I contacted my friend Scott the General Manager of JB’s on the Beach. In case you don’t remember, Scott and JB’s on the Beach hosted our firefighter lunches in July of this year. You can read about lunch with the Georgia firefighters in the July 2013 stories. After I met him in July and talked with him several times the past few months we got to know each other and we keep in touch.  I sent him an email after I was home, asking how he’s doing since we haven’t been in touch in a while. It was about 12:15 in the morning when I sent the email. I was really surprised when he sent a reply a few minutes later. We chatted by email a little, and I said I would stop by in the next few days to see him and catch up on our lives. The day before, I had an urge for some mini beef wellingtons and I went to a few local restaurant food distributor stores to see if I could buy some frozen ones. They didn’t have them and I didn’t want to make them.

In my email with Scott, I asked if his restaurant serves beef wellington, I told him that I couldn’t find any in the stores. He said he would ask his Chef Mike. Then I got an email asking how many I wanted. Well, guess what, when I went to JB’s the next day to visit with Scott, I met Chef Mike and he said he would make some for me. Wow… I was surprised and happy… my taste buds were excited!!! Chef Mike said they would be ready for me the next morning. When I went to pick them up, Chef Mike handed me a large plate with almost 2 dozen mini beef wellingtons. I brought them lots of my homemade brownies as thanks. When I got home, I heated a few of the beef wellingtons and ate them… they were so delicious. I ate a few a day for a several days, then I froze some so I could eat them later on when I have the craving again.

IMG_2427JB’s on the Beach, just north of the Deerfield Beach Pier, just remodeled the entire restaurant, I brought my camera when I went to visit with Scott. It looks absolutely beautiful inside. Very tropical. They even installed sliding glass doors between the inside of the restaurant and the patio outside. The glass they used is not only hurricane resistant, but also turtle friendly. I think that is really extraordinary that they care so much for the wildlife. The new flooring is tile planks that looks like wood, the seats are a sort of sea foam green, and the walls around the seating areas and throughout the restaurant are glass tiles. The bar area has little seating areas so people can sit next to each other and talk, not having to sit on stools or stand. It’s a great atmosphere to eat, enjoy sports games, or visit with friends. There is also a patio with seating for meals, and a bar so patrons can sit outside, get fresh air, and look at the ocean while they eat.

IMG_2355Since it’s the holidays JB’s is decorated for Christmas. From the time you pull up in front of the restaurant, you are welcomed with decorations, and of course the new tiles on the steps leading up to the front door. I took lots of pictures so you can see both the beautiful and creative decorations, and the newly remodeled restaurant, which now includes a gift shop area where you can buy their t-shirts, hats, etc. They have some original designed shirts which come in many colors and graphics. At first I thought one of them had a volleyball in the design, but it’s not. You will have to come look for yourself to see what it really is.

There is also an original 3D wall mural that is very large and beautiful. It was created by an artist especially for JB’s and the spot on the wall where it’s hanging.

The elves that are strategically placed in the decorations look lifelike. They even have them climbing a ladder from the floor up to the sailboat that is suspended from the ceiling. I want to take one of the elves home with me to keep me company and add a special touch to my apartment, but I didn’t because it looks perfect where it is. There is a spot near Santa where we can sit to have our pictures taken with Santa. I love the tall, beautifully decorated tree near the back of the restaurant. As I was looking at the decorations on the tree, I saw two red and white striped legs with green shoes sticking out near the top. I think an elf fell in the tree when it was helping to decorate it. Or perhaps the elf was hiding a present??? If so, who was it being hidden for, or from?

Scott told me that Chef Emeril Lagasse was at the restaurant a few weeks ago filming a show that will be aired sometime in the future. Chef Mike told me the dishes he cooked for Emeril, which all sounded delicious and none that I have ever eaten. Scott told me the process they went through in order to have the show filmed, they went through several meetings and had the production crew on scene several times. It was very interesting process, and I’m sure very time consuming. How proud I am for JB’s to have the honor of being selected as one of the best restaurants. They most definitely deserve it. JB’s helps so many charities raise money, and they do fundraisers for charities they support. For the past 4 or so years, JB’s has donated the survivor and caregiver meals for our American Cancer Society Relay For Life event. The management and staff has such generous and caring hearts and spirits. I’m grateful to be able to consider them my friends.
