Audubon Newhall Preserve, Hilton Head, SC

This morning Milan, Griff, and I went to Hilton Head in South Carolina to walk around the Audubon Newhall Preserve. It was really peaceful and beautiful. Many trees were still in the flowering and bud stage.  There were many plants and trees that IMG_8853I had not seen before such as the Horsesugar tree which produces these different shaped fruit that are soft and feel like velvet. Each fruit is shaped differently.  I posted my pictures in an album so you can see how beautiful this preserve is. IMG_8877_1IMG_8848

After we took our time walking all the paths in the nature preserve, I suggested that we drive to the shopping district and have a Rita’s ice as a treat, it turned out to be our lunch. Milan and Griff have never before had Rita’s and now I think they are hooked on it.  The first time I had Rita’s was in Hilton Head about 7 years ago. When one opened near me in south Florida, of course I had to go frequently until sadly they closed.  I had a mango with vanilla ice cream, Milan had cherry with chocolate ice cream, it tasted like a chocolate tootsy roll, and Griff had root beer with vanilla and he said it tasted like a root beer float.  We sat and enjoyed our treat, then drove back to Milan’s house in Bluffton.  Milan and Jane had cooked us all a very exceptional, delicious Czech meal of a traditional meat with gravy and dumplings.

After we stuffed ourselves, we played once again with Milan’s Jack Russell terriers who are very entertaining.  Casey the male loves to swim in the pool, and catch balls which are then either tossed or pushed by him into the pool, or carried into the back yard.  Gabby the female loves to get the balls and very sneakily push them into the pool and stand there waiting for Casey to go in and get them out so she can push them back into the water.  They also play together rolling the balls around. It’s so cute.

I am leaving in the morning to continue my trip.  I don’t know how far I will get. My abdominal pain is increasing and I am seriously considering just going across the country to Knoxville, then towards Oklahoma, maybe Albuquerque, and Texas and back to Florida.
