Beautiful Flower Garden and Pike Place Market

July 11, 2011

Today we got up and went to visit Patt’s friend Suzanne who has the most beautiful English style backyard garden. It was so peaceful and quiet. Suzanne was a very gracious hostess who told us about the various plants and let us smell the lovely scented roses.

We then ventured to Pike’s Place Market and while we were looking for a place to eat lunch, we stopped and got a raspberry cream cheese muffin to share, boy was it delicious!!!  All along the nearby streets there were street musicians in various places playing either a guitar, or banjo, or perhaps a trio playing different instruments.

After walking through the market with the fish mongers, fruit stands, and other types of booths, we walked along the street side and decided to have a dungeness crab sandwich for lunch.  It was really good and we sat outside enjoying the fresh air while we ate.  We walked along other streets and saw so many wonderful food type establishments.  We stopped in one of the french bakeries and took many sniffs of the fresh baked croissants and other goodies, then decided to move on.  Next we stopped for an ice cream cone which was very cool and refreshing.

Another store made fresh cheese and we got to watch some type of cheeses being made. They made large trays of macaroni and cheese which people were standing in line to buy. Since we had already eaten, we didn’t get any.

Before we left the Market area we bought a nice piece of fresh Copper River salmon from Alaska to cook for dinner.  It was a really bright orange color, and it was wild caught and natural in color, not color enhanced farm raised fish that we buy at the grocery in Florida.

As we drove back to Patt’s house, we detoured through several older parts of downtown Seattle and I learned more about the city.  We saw a moving sculpture called Hammer Man, which was very tall and on a street corner.

We also drove past Experience Music Project funded and owned by Paul Allen, Bill Gates former partner. It is really a strange looking piece of artwork, since we were driving by I only got a quick photo. The monorail passes through the artwork which really is amazing to me.

Since we had some leftovers from dinner last night, we ate them with our fresh salmon which really was fantastic. Dessert was JUMBO cookies that we bought at a bakery.

Check the Photo Album, Seattle, for today’s photos, they are at the end of the pictures.
